Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • current employment in Barbering or Hairdressing industry and/or complete required work placement during the course

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • You will need to purchase Specialist Equipment and a Hair Resource Kit in order to develop your skills.
    • A detailed Specialist Equipment List will be provided at the orientation session or via email, along with suggested industry suppliers for you to purchase prior to starting class.
    • The cost of your Hair Resources which is required for practical session/s is approx. $550, this goes towards the cost of Head blocks and a uniform which you will retain on completion of your training.
    • The section will outline when these will be needed.
    • Students are also required to wear closed-in, protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee and are required to bring a laptop and ipad to class.

  • Attend an orientation session and complete an interview. Learners are also required to complete LLN assessment (RUReady) as part of this enrolment.

  • To be eligible for Smart & Skilled funding under the Trade-related pathways initiative, learners must be able to provide evidence of the following:

    • Your age is 21 years or over
    • Any Credit Transfers from relevant previous study or Recognition of Prior Learning from relevant workplace experience.
    • Current employment in Barbering or Hairdressing industry and/or complete required work placement during the course

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
