Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • Trade equipment and a hair resource kit approximate cost of $450 - $550
    • Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers.
  • As part of this course, you will be required to provide barbering services on paying clients and may also need to provide clients for some of your practical classes and assessments. You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

    • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
    • employed full time
    • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
    • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Qualified Barber, Freelance session stylist, Creative/artistic director, Technical or sales advisor, Business owner/operator, Franchise owner/operator, Screen media entertainment after successful completion.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
