Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • Detailed Student Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers. The cost for specialist equipment for this course is approx. $500 which you will retain on completion of your training.

  • Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee. A uniform can be purchased at a cost of approx. $30 to wear in the TAFE NSW simulated workplace environment.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you:

    • should be employed in a barber shop where they provide barbering services on clients.
  • Work placement is designed to enrich the learning, compliment the formal training and enable an easier transition into the industry once the course is completed.

  • Learners will also be provided with access to a simulated work environment at the TAFE campus, providing services on paying clients.

  • TAFE Clinic sessions can be completed as work placement or with a host employer that has been approved by the teaching section.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
