Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • Trade equipment and a hair resource kit. Approximate cost of $450 - $550. Equipment lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers.

  • As part of this course you will be required to provide barbering services to paying clients, and may also need to provide clients for some of your practical classes and assessments.

  • You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

  • It is strongly recommended students bring their own laptop, iPad or other mobile devices to access their course content on the Internet.

    • Are 21 years of age and over.
    • Have significant amount of work experience in the barbering or hairdressing trade area.
    • Meet the local level requirement of an ACFS level 3 for this qualification.
    • Provide Any Credit Transfers from relevant previous study or Recognition of Prior Learning from relevant workplace experience.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
