The nationally recognised Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy refines and evolves the practical skills needed to work as a beauty therapist. Graduate with valuable industry experience to care for your clients from booking and treatment through to delivering quality aftercare and follow-up consultations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy as an apprenticeship. There may also be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice.

Apprenticeship
To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Be employed as an apprentice in the beauty industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer
  • Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application

Non-apprenticeship

WORK PLACEMENT

There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

You are required to provide evidence prior to enrolment of your Apprenticeship Training Contract (Training Plan Proposal) from your Apprenticeship Network Provider (Australian Apprenticeship Centre) plus any documentation of previous studies.
NOTE: Your enrolment as a registered Apprentice will not be finalised unless your training plan contract or evidence has been sighted by the teaching section. You must provide evidence of your apprenticeship registration when you come to the Information Sessions and/or first class (orientation), where you will be provided with details of your attendance program and study requirements.

To be able to successfully complete this course, you will need to compelete the required assessment activities which will be outlined at the Information Session and/or first class (orientation) for this course.

Wednesday, 23 June 2021 | 5:00pm to 6:00pm | Wentworth Falls Campus, Mitchell St, Wentworth Falls, Building A, Ground Floor, Foyer.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time course. You will need to attend approximately 7.8 hours of class, 1 day a week, for 2 years. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 9 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 2 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preperation, elective unit (workplace support), informal workplace training.

Once you have enrolled in this course, you will be required to attend your first class (orientation) on Wednesday 14 July 2021, 11:00am to 2:00pm to be held at TAFE NSW Blue Mountains, Blue Mountains (Katoomba), Parke St, Katoomba in Building C, Ground Floor, Room 22 (C.G..22). At your first class (orientation), you will be advised of your timetable, course requirements and related course costs. Classes are currently scheduled for Wednesdays (2021), Thursdays (Semester 1, 2022), Tuesdays (Semester 2, 2022), Thursdays (Semester 1, 2023) please note this timetable is subject to change. Your weekly attendance program will be developed in consultation with your Employer and you will receive a copy of your finalised timetable/program. Your first class will be held on Wednesday, 14 July 2021, (unless advised otherwise).

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing.
They communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

Target group: Beauty Apprentices. Apprentices are employed in beauty salons.

MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You are required to provide evidence that you have a signed contract to be employed as an apprentice.
TAFE NSW obtains and signs the training contract as the RTO.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

There are a range of study options for NSW Apprentices and eligible non-apprentices with relevant industry work experience in this course.

Under the NSW Government fee-free apprenticeship initiative, NSW apprentices that commence their training on or after 1 July 2018 may be eligible for fee-free training. Apprentices are required to provide evidence of their NSW apprenticeship to finalise their enrolment and applicable fees.

This course is also a TAFE NSW Trade Pathways Qualification and ideal if you have been working in this industry for an extended period of time but havent received a qualification. To be eligible to enrol as a non-apprentice and secure funding, you must firstly meet the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and be:

  • over 21 years of age
  • able to demonstrate and provide evidence of extensive industry experience and
  • able to demonstrate relevant ongoing work experience and provide workplace evidence to support the achievement of competence.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade, personal protective equipment (PPE) and a tunic, which is required to participate in practical classes. WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry. Non-compulsory items: TAFE NSW Hair & Beauty T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased at an approximate cost of $20. Please note that any essential equipment and other items that the student has the choice of acquiring from the provider, or from another supplier other than the provider, that become the physical property of the student, are retained by the student on completion of training, and are not consumed during the training.
