The nationally recognised Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy refines and evolves the practical skills needed to work as a beauty therapist. Graduate with valuable industry experience to care for your clients from booking and treatment through to delivering quality aftercare and follow-up consultations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy as an apprenticeship. There may also be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice.

Apprenticeship
To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Be employed as an apprentice in the beauty industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer
  • Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application

Non-apprenticeship
Enquire today, and one of our Apprenticeship and Traineeship team will help you understand any eligibility or entry requirements that apply.

WORK PLACEMENT

There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A commitment to following strict hygiene and work, health and safety principles
  • Confidence with massage including head, feet, hands and body
  • The capacity to practice skills on your peers and members of the public and allow peers to practise on you

  • Availability to attend an interview with a teacher to determine your suitability

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
  • employed full time
  • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
  • Local level entry requirements are identified at an ACFS level 4 for this qualification. This course offering is for Apprentices only. You must have an employer and training plan proposal to enrol. You will need to be registered with an Apprenticeship Network Provider.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
As part of this course, you will be required to provide services on paying clients and may also need to provide models for some of your practical classes and assessments. You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Day course. You will need to attend approximately 7.8 hours of class over 1 day a week for 2 years. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 9 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 2 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study assignment preparation, elective unit (workplace support) and informal workplace training.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This Certificate IV Beauty Therapy qualification is only for registered apprentices. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. They communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled for 1 day a week. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail of your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of - $450-500.

WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry. Please note that the tool kit is equipment required for the course which you will own.

RECOGNITION

Recognition is a process of acknowledging previously completed qualifications, skills, knowledge or experience relevant to your course. This may reduce the amount of learning required, reduce your course fees and allow you to achieve your qualification faster.

Before you can start an apprenticeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW.

The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with State Training Services, who will provide further advice about next steps.
