Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of pharmacy assistants who use a defined and limited range of customer service skills. With basic product knowledge, they recommend and supply a limited range of products to customers and often refer enquiries to other team members.

They are involved in mainly routine front of pharmacy tasks such as point-of-sale service, stock maintenance and display. They work under close supervision, with guidance from more experienced and senior pharmacy assistants and ultimately under the supervising pharmacist.

Pharmacy assistants must comply with federal, state or territory law and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines for supplying scheduled medicines. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

To successfully complete this course work placement is not compulsory however is highly recommended in a pharmacy.

Learners will be required to demonstrate practical components of the course either in a real pharmacy work environment or in a simulated pharmacy environment.

Learners will need a USB and a recording device (mobile phone).

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part-Time Day Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 20 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weeks.
You may also be required to complete approximately 5.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours.

Delivery will be via video conference from TAFE NSW Tamworth Campus to selected regional TAFE NSW campuses.

Job seekers, Aboriginal people, mature aged, seeking employment or reskilling in pharmacy. Learners will have little or no pharmacy industry experience or knowledge.

This course is currently scheduled at TAFE NSW Coonabarabran, Connected Learning Centre on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.00am to 3.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
