Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant.

  • if you have computer access outside of TAFE course program hours. This training is supported by online learning resources and can be accessed at the TAFE Campus you are studying at.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a face to face full time course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, 3 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 12 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, online learning activities, research and assignment preparation.

SERVICES AND STUDY SUPPORT

Students with education support needs may require adjustments to learning and assessment strategies as well as additional time to develop the required level of competence. Reasonable (also referred to as allowable) adjustments are changes that are made to training and assessment conditions so that reasonable steps are taken to ensure that disability, illness or learning need does not affect performance. To achieve an AQF qualification, students must be able to safely demonstrate knowledge and skills at the level required for each unit of competency as defined in the relevant training package.

  • specialist support staff, facilities and learning materials for students with disabilities.
  • providing the opportunity to develop skills in real industry settings.
  • providing a safe and healthy learning environment - both within TAFE and during work placement.
  • counselling and careers advisory services.
  • specialist staff to assist with language, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • specialist support staff for ATSI students and students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
    Students also have access to libraries where they can borrow a range of resources and get personalised help from library support staff. Libraries also provide access to online resources (eBooks, eJournals, eVideos) that are available from any computer and most mobile devices. Free WiFi and charged printing and photocopying are also available.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday 9.30am - 3.00pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 3.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
