Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant.

It is assumed that you have literacy and numeracy skills at Certificate II level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to demonstrate practical components of the course either in a retail work environment or in a simulated retail environment at TAFE NSW Tamworth Campus. Learners will need a USB and a recording device (mobile phone).

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part-time day blended course. You will need to attend approximately 13.4 hours of class over 3 days a week, for 28 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 1.9 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours.

This course is offered by Connected Classroom. This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.

Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

This course offering is designed for learners who are Job seekers, Aboriginal people, mature aged, seeking employment or re-skilling in general retail. Learners will have little or no retail industry experience or knowledge. Learners will be aspiring to work in a variety of retail industry areas, which may include; food or general retailers, automotive industry, supermarkets.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
