Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • You will need to attend each class across the length of the course and additionally you will need to successfully complete all Assessment Tasks.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time, Face to Face course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 6 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including The total hours listed for this course delivery has been determined because students are expected to in addition to attending class for the hours listed spend unsupervised time on private study including:

  • Pre-class reading of supplied course content in supplied workbooks,
  • Research on retail brands and the customer demographics of the different brands
  • Preparation of work for tasks that would be worked on in face to face class time,
  • reviewing the days class work covered in face to face delivery,
  • completing course activities in workbooks that have been provided
  • self-initiated learning to prepare the students for upcoming class tasks and course content
  • Additional out of class practice in the retail store simulated environment working on the latest technology and register systems

The delivery of units within the course have been clustered for the face-to-face delivery.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
