Course Details

Climb to the top of the ladder in your retail career. Build on your existing retail training or customer service experience with this nationally recognised Certificate IV in Retail Management, providing you with the skills and experience youll need to operate at management level.

Taught by professionals with up-to-date industry knowledge, you will learn:

  • How to manage a small shop or a section or department of a larger retail operation
  • Skills to manage technical financial duties
  • Staff management and hiring
  • Training and supervision
  • How to manage inventory
  • How to position a business to operate at a profit
  • E-commerce skills
  • How to manage a retail operation during downtime periods

Both business-to-client and business-to-business retail management skills will be taught.

Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Retail Management can lead to management roles in a wide range of retail businesses.

This retail training course is usually studied on-campus and full-time but there may be flexible options available. It may be suitable to study as part of a Traineeship.

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who: - have achieved a Certificate III in Retail
or - have relevant industry employment experience in a job role that has involved the application of skills and knowledge described in core units of competency from the SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail.

**COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS**

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • already completed the Certificate III in Retail, or provide evidence you have the performance criteria equivalent to a Certificate III in Retail from current work experience in the retail industry.

    To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • LLN Proficiency of Level 3-4 through R U Ready program

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, blended delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 7 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 16 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study of class notes and Moodle resources and activities, research online, complete assessments, prepare for Skills assessments.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • This qualification reflects the role of frontline retail team members who use a defined and limited range of operational skills to undertake workplace activities. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision of others.

  • This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.
    Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline team member, customer service assistant and point-of-sale operator.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30am to 3:00pm.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

A fee applies for most TAFE NSW courses and must be paid when you enrol. The amount you pay depends on the type of course you study, and on your personal circumstances. An initial payment of $80 is required to confirm your enrolment into this course. If you do not wish to continue with your enrolment, you must formally advise Customer Service of your withdrawal.
