Course Details
The nationally accredited Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instructor) enables you to step up to your career as a qualified fitness instructor. You will learn how to apply the principles of exercise science to help real clients achieve their goals in TAFE NSW gyms or industry workplaces.

- Be employed in the fitness industry as this course is delivered in the workplace

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS
During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.
You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:
- A Working with Children Check (WWCC)
WORK PLACEMENT
Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.
Work experience is not mandatory for this qualification; however, this is a highly practical course with your coursework structured to include 30 hours of work experience.
If gym facilities are available at your TAFE NSW campus, you will be rostered to complete this component onsite working with real clients.
If your TAFE NSW campus does not have a gym, you will need to arrange work experience with a TAFE NSW industry partner, local gym or other fitness settings. Talk to our team about the options available to you.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
- Intermediate English language proficiency
- An appropriate level of fitness and mobility to perform both fitness activities and CPR on the floor
- Confidence in and around water, including being able to swim
- Time for self-paced study and assessment completion outside of scheduled class times

During your study, you may need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement within industry.
Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
A current clear Australian National Police Record Check
Current vaccinations including flu (influenza) and COVID-19 and other health department immunisation requirements.
A NDIS Worker Screening Check
Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires
Students will be responsible for costs associated with obtaining these required checks and vaccinations

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a full time on campus course. You must attend approximately 21 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 10 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.
The course will run 3 days a week for 18 weeks.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with evening classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
