Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have a defined and limited range of hospitality operational skills and basic industry knowledge. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops.

Possible job titles include:

  • bar attendant
  • cafe attendant
  • catering assistant
  • food and beverage attendant
  • front office assistant
  • porter
  • room attendant.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to the needs of local students and specific cohorts (like apprentices, fast-tracked students and online students). This means you will also need to meet any entry requirements listed below.

A Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) level at ACSF Level 2 when commencing the course and basic computer skills. This will be assessed as part of your enrolment process.

TAFE NSW will provide support for your LLN and other needs.

Progress through the course is monitored against your training plan so that any issues are identified and rectified in a timely manner.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time Face-to-Face course. You will need to attend approximately 18.4 hours of class a week, over 4 days per week, for 18 weeks. The timetable is subject to change and will be confirmed by your teacher on your first day.

You can also expect approximately 4 hours of additional study each week including, assessment preparation and private study outside of class hours.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
