Course Details

The nationally accredited Certificate II in Hospitality is for aspiring food and beverage attendants wanting to build an exciting career in the growing hospitality industry. Traineeship
TAFE NSW also offers the Certificate II in Hospitality as a traineeship. To be eligible to enrol as a trainee you must:

  • Be employed inthe hospitality industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your course work.

To be able to undertake work placement you need to meet other requirements. These will differ depending on your work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires . For example, Liquor and Gaming NSW regulations requires you to be 18 years of age or older to undertake units that involve the service of alcohol and/or gaming operations. Students can choose not to take these elective units if they are underage, or if they want to move into a general caf stream of work.

Electives that are used for licensing purposes include:

  • SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
  • SITHGAM001 Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)

WORK PLACEMENT

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

During your course you will undertake a mandatory 12 service periods (shifts) of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will either arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Liquor and Gaming NSW regulations require you to be 18 years of age or older to obtain a competency card. This allows you to work in the industry and serve or supply alcohol and/or work with gaming machines. Depending on your place of work, you may need to obtain a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or Responsible Gambling Services (RCG) competency card.

If you undertake the SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
elective, you will be issued with an interim RSA certificate on completion. The interim certificate licenses you to work in the industry immediately and is only valid for a short period while you apply for your permanent competency card through Service NSW.

It's important to note that while you can undertake this unit to become job-ready, you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol until you are 18 years old

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:
-To demonstrate skills in some assessments. This may involve participating in roleplays which may be video recorded and the video submitted for marking.
-Adult colleagues, friends or family members who are available and willing to participate in assessment role plays that are recorded and submitted for marking.
-Recording equipment such as a camera or smart phone.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a self paced, online course. You must attend approximately 9 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 4 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.

The course will run online for 1 years.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

  • RSA - $87 (unit SITHFAB002) is charged by Liquor and Gaming NSW.
