The nationally recognised Certificate II in Kitchen Operations builds the technical skills and industry knowledge you need to work in a commercial kitchen as a breakfast cook, catering assistant, fast food cook, sandwich hand or takeaway cook.

The Certificate II in Kitchen Operations helps address a skills shortage in the hospitality industry and prepare for its forecasted growth over three years to 2023.

This is a Full Time blended delivery course. You will need to attend approximately 17.7 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks over 6 months. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 2.2 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 2.9 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including independent study, research, practice and assignment preparation.
To complete this qualification, you will be required to undertake connected theory classes via an online platform such as Microsoft Teams and/or attend a modified practical skills session at a TAFE College three day/s a week.
As part of this course, you may be asked to undertake role play assessments via connected technologies such as Skype or Microsoft Teams and submit your assessment events electronically to your teacher/s through either the TAFE NSW Moodle or direct email.
Please note: All face to face on campus delivery and assessment will comply with TAFE NSW COVID-19 Safe Guidelines. TAFE NSW- The Hills will support TAFE students with their learning and computers are available at TAFE campus? for student use.

Upon successful completion of Certificate II in Kitchen Operations you may be eligible for course credit to study the following qualifications;
SIT30816 - Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
SIT30816 - Certificate III in Hospitality
SIT40416 - Certificate IV in Hospitality
This qualification provides a pathway to work in kitchen operations in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops; and institutions such as aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons, and schools.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Wednesday from 9.00am to 3.00pm, Thursday from 9.00am to 12.00pm, and Friday from 9.00am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
