The nationally accredited Certificate III in Hospitality gives you a solid foundation of operational skills to work in the fast-paced hospitality industry. This course will prepare you for a career as a function host, food and beverage attendant, barista or gaming attendant.

Traineeship
TAFE NSW also offers the Certificate III in Hospitality as a traineeship. To be eligible to enrol as a trainee you must:
- Be employed in the hospitality industry as this course is delivered in the workplace?

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS
During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:
- A valid license or proof of age card, to demonstrate that you are over 18 years of age
This is mandatory for the following electives
- Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
- Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)

WORK PLACEMENT
Work placement provides you with opportunities to practice responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
During your course you will undertake a mandatory 36 service periods (shifts) of work placement with a suitable industry employer. Some of these service periods are scheduled as part of your course for the observation and assessment of your progress.
The remaining service periods are undertaken through a TAFE NSW approved work placement, through paid work or a combination of both.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
The NSW Liquor and Gaming regulations require you to be 18 years of age or older to obtain a competency card that allows you to serve or supply alcohol or work with gaming machines. This qualification may include the following electives with licensing requirements that are regulated by Liquor and Gaming NSW:
- Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
- Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)
If you undertake these electives, you will be issued with an interim RSA or RCG certificate. The interim certificate licenses you to work in the industry immediately and is only valid for a short period while you apply for your permanent competency card through Service NSW.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:
- a trainee (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
- employed
- signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
- seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified hospitality worker after successful completion
To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- to demonstrate skills in some assesments. This may involve participating in role plays which may be video recorded and the video submitted for marking.
- adult colleagues, friend or family members who are available and willing to participate in assessment role plays which are recorded and submitted for marking.
- recording equipment such as a camera or smart phone.
Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:
- 10 x 3-4 service periods or shifts that involve front of house customer service, setting up for service, participating in the service and closing the service period; to show that you can provide quality hospitality service to customers. The service periods must be worked in businesses such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops during your traineeship.
Work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of this course. Due to the impacts of COVID 19 and the disruption to service provision in some industry sectors, you may experience delays in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in your planned timeframe.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a self paced on campus course. You must attend approximately 10 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 10 x 3-4 service periods (work placement).
The course will run for 18 months.

Australian Traineeships training can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. TAFE NSW will negotiate your attendance and study pattern with you and your employer.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to provide the following resources which is retained on completion of study:
- If you require a RSA competency card or a FSS certificate an additional cost is required
- RSA - $87 (unit SITHFAB002) is charged by Liquor and Gaming NSW
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate - $30 (units SITXFSA001 and SITXFSA002) is charged by the NSW Food Authority
These fees need to be paid before we can issue the certificates.
