Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of well-developed cookery skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations to prepare food and menu items. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a commercial cook in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience your fee may decrease from the maximum shown.
Payment by instalment may also be available. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply. If you are a registered apprentice, you may be eligible for a Fee Free Apprenticeship, which will be verified at enrolment.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
It is strongly recommended that you attend an Information Session on one of the following dates. Sessions are held in F Block, Ground Floor, The Restaurant at TAFE NSW Campbelltown.

Before you can start an apprenticeship, you need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in who will support you through your studies. You and your employer must contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW. The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, your employer and the ANP will complete a Training Plan Proposal and submit it to TAFE NSW. Once the TPP has been accepted by TAFE NSW, we will contact you to complete your enrolment.
