Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who use a broad range of hospitality service, sales or operational skills combined with supervisory skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to plan, monitor and evaluate the work of team members. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others, and use discretion to solve non-routine problems.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a supervisor in hospitality organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, food and beverage, and gaming.

Possible job titles include:
bar supervisor or team leader
concierge
duty manager
food and beverage supervisor or team leader
front office supervisor or team leader
housekeeping supervisor or team leader
gaming supervisor or team leader
shift manager.

Mandatory Workplace Requirements:

  • A requirement of SITHIND004 Work effectively in hospitality service is to integrate technical skills and provide hospitality service to customers for a minimum of 36 complete service periods (shifts). Students can complete these shifts on campus or have them signed off by a workplace supervisor if they are employed in industry, 26 service periods are schedule into the students timetable.

The Food and Beverage Teacher will make contact with the workplace to ensure that they have sufficient equipment and materials to support the students in demonstrating the required skills. The workplace details are collected and stored on the Workplace Observation Checklist and Logbook kept by the students as evidence.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 17.6 hours of class, over 3-4 days a week, for 28 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 10.1 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including class preparation and independent research.

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • would like to gain employment in the hospitality industry in a food and beverage service environment such as a cafe or a restaurant. This includes job seekers, school leavers and those wanting to change career or re-enter the workforce

  • must be able to operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems. Students must also have sound computer literacy skills

This qualification is suitable for students who wish to enter the Hospitality industry at an operative level and may lead graduates into a pathway in Hotel or Restaurant Management.

This qualification is also suitable for existing workers who would like to progress onto a supervisory role within their organisation.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Thursday from 9.00am to 3.30pm. Tuesday from 2.00pm to 10.30pm. Friday optional tutorial workshop from 10.00am to 1.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

  • Black pants or knee length skirt

  • Black button up business shirt
  • Students will be eligible to apply for the NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol Competency Card on successful completion of SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol. The optional cost to obtain the RSA Competency Card is $85.00.
