Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who use a broad range of hospitality service, sales or operational skills combined with supervisory skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to plan, monitor and evaluate the work of team members. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others, and use discretion to solve non-routine problems.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a supervisor in hospitality organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, food and beverage, and gaming.

Possible job titles include:
bar supervisor or team leader
concierge
duty manager
food and beverage supervisor or team leader
front office supervisor or team leader
housekeeping supervisor or team leader
gaming supervisor or team leader
shift manager.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • access to computer, printer, software programs and Internet to access the TAFE Digital platform.

Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

  • 36 service periods or shifts that involve setting up for service, participating in the service and closing the service period. The service periods must be worked in businesses such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

TRAINEES ONLY

Before you can start a traineeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW.
The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with State Training Services, who will provide further advice about next steps.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 11 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 18 months.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including independent study, research, practice and assignments and the 36 required service periods.

An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments. 36 service periods are required to be completed.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, you may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption or fee free scholarship. Payment by instalments is available.

You may continue with an enrolment into this course if you are not eligible for subsidised training, however the full training fee will be applicable. There are conditions to enrolment if you are a Temporary Visa Holder. To discuss your visa status and eligibility to enrol please phone 131 241.
