Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems. Students must also have sound computer literacy skills. - Food Service Periods required to be undertaken as part of qualification.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time blended course. You will need to attend approximately 24.6 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 10 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 1.7 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours.

This qualification targets individuals who would like to change career, re-enter the workforce or school leavers interested in getting a job within the hospitality industry. It also may be for individuals working in the industry and looking to improve their skills and knowledge to prepare for further opportunities or they may be new entrants who are building their skills and knowledge base to industry standards. This qualification may lead graduates into a pathway in Hotel or Restaurant Management or into a University pathway

This course is currently scheduled for 3 days a week. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
