INDUSTRY DEMAND
Employment in the hospitality industry is expected to increase by 12.1% in the next five years which means an additional 91,000 jobs. The Diploma of Hospitality Management will prepare you for leadership roles in this exciting, growing and global sector.

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS
During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.
Electives which are used for licensing purposes include:
- SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
- SITHGAM001 Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)
WORK PLACEMENT
At TAFE NSW we provide training that includes hands-on, practical experience. Work placement ensures you have the job ready skills to achieve competency in this course.
You will be required to complete a minimum of 36 service periods (shifts). Some of these service periods are scheduled as part of your course for observation and assessment.
The remaining service periods are undertaken through:
- Work placement which TAFE NSW will arrange in conjunction with you
- Paid work
- Or, a combination of both
You will practice:
- Interacting positively with multiple customers, providing quality customer service
- Working with speed and efficiency to meet the operational needs of contemporary hospitality businesses
- Identifying issues and problems and participating in their resolution
- Working cooperatively as part of a team, and taking responsibility for service outcomes
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU
To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:
- Literacy and numeracy skills at a Year 12 level
- Ability to communicate effectively
- An interest in moving into leadership and management roles

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
This qualification includes electives with licensing requirements that are regulated by Liquor and Gaming NSW.
RSA and RCG
- Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
- Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)
If you undertake these electives, you will be issued with an interim RSA or RCG certificate on completion. The interim certificate licenses you to work in the industry immediately and is only valid for a short period while you apply for your permanent competency card through Service NSW.
It's important to note that you while you can undertake these units to become job ready, you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol or providing gaming services until you are 18 years old.
Other electives
Some of the electives in this course require you to hold an RSA and be 18 years old.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
Students must wear long black buisness pants, closed in black leather shoes and a supplied black TAFE NSW business shirt
To successfully complete this course, you will need to complete Work Placement:
A requirement of SITHIND004 Work effectively in hospitality service is to integrate technical skills and provide hospitality service to customers for a minimum of 36 complete service periods (shifts). Students can complete these shifts on campus or have them signed off by a workplace supervisor if they are employed in industry.
The Teacher will make contact with the workplace to ensure that they have sufficient equipment and materials to support the students in demonstrating the required skills. The workplace details are collected and stored on the Workplace Observation Checklist and Logbook kept by the students as evidence.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a full time course. You will need to attend approximately 19 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 1 year. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12.2 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 2.1 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including service periods and prescribed reading.
Attendance: Face to face classes will decrease in Semester 2, therefore the timetable will need to be adjusted. Monday includes services periods.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID-19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Monday from 12.00pm to 9.30pm and Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:
- Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
- Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
- A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
- A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
- Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
Students undertaking elective SITHGAM001 Provide responsible conduct of gambling are required to pay an incidental charge of $41 for the RCG Interim Certificate.
Students undertaking the elective SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol are required to pay an incidental charge of $86 for the RSA Interim Certificate.
Students undertaking these units will be issued with the relevant Liquor and Gaming NSW resource prior to the course commencement. A short pre-course activity will also be provided for students undertaking the RSA SITHFAB002, to be completed prior to the course.
