INDUSTRY DEMAND

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS
During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.

- SITHGAM001 Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)
WORK PLACEMENT
At TAFE NSW we provide training that includes hands-on, practical experience. Work placement ensures you have the job ready skills to achieve competency in this course.
You will be required to complete a minimum of 36 service periods (shifts). Some of these service periods are scheduled as part of your course for observation and assessment.
The remaining service periods are undertaken through:
- Work placement which TAFE NSW will arrange in conjunction with you
- Paid work
- Or, a combination of both
You will practice:
- Interacting positively with multiple customers, providing quality customer service
- Working with speed and efficiency to meet the operational needs of contemporary hospitality businesses
- Identifying issues and problems and participating in their resolution
- Working cooperatively as part of a team, and taking responsibility for service outcomes
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU
To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:
- Literacy and numeracy skills at a Year 12 level
- Ability to communicate effectively
- An interest in moving into leadership and management roles

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
This qualification includes electives with licensing requirements that are regulated by Liquor and Gaming NSW.
RSA and RCG
- Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
- Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)
If you undertake these electives, you will be issued with an interim RSA or RCG certificate on completion. The interim certificate licenses you to work in the industry immediately and is only valid for a short period while you apply for your permanent competency card through Service NSW.
It's important to note that you while you can undertake these units to become job ready, you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol or providing gaming services until you are 18 years old.

Some of the electives in this course require you to hold an RSA and be 18 years old.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide proof of age. You must be over 18 to complete the alcohol related units in this course. You must be 18 no later than 17 July 2021.
To successfully complete this course, you will need access to a computer and the internet. If you do not have access at home, you are welcome to use the on-campus facilities. You will need to provide a service uniform of black pants or skirt and black buttoned shirt with a collar. You will also need black fully enclosed non slip sole shoes to enter the commercial kitchen.
To be eligible for this course you must have recent (in the past 5 years) hospitality experience to satisfy the practical unit requirements which includes 36 service periods of a minimum 4 hours duration or be willing to work in a hospitality business in your local area to complete this requirement. Your teacher will be able to advise you regarding the evidence you will need.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a blended flexible course. You will need to complete approximately 15.5 hours of study a week, for 2 years.
You may also be required to complete approximately 1 hour of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and preparation for assessments.

This course is delivered flexibly and includes a range of teaching methods. You will be required to attend live workshops either face to face via VC at your local?TAFE,?MS Teams or Adobe Connect classroom.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:
- Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
- Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
- A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
- A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
- Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
You will need to pay $86 for your RSA card and $41 for your RCG competency card. If you already hold a Liquor and Gaming competency card for both skills, you do not need to pay this fee.
