Course Details

The nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in Food Handling provides you with practical skills for food handling work. Learn to use hygienic practices and take measures to prevent food contamination.

This is a fully government subsidised course. Eligibility criteria applies.


Get a head start in the hospitality or tourism industry and through theory and practical course work learn to:

  • Follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards

Certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in food handling. Certification in some states relies on the achievement of the unit in this short course (SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety).

Food safety legislative and knowledge requirements may differ across borders.


To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • English language skills at a Year 10 or equivalent level
  • A desire for a career in tourism, travel, hospitality or events
  • An interest in food, food handling and food safety
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multitask and respond well to rapid change

This is a full-time, combination course. You must attend approximately 8 hours of class.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday with day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.
