Course Details

The nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) is the mandatory training to sell and serve alcohol in NSW. Successfully complete this short course and receive an interim certificate so you can start working in the industry immediately.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Commonly known as the RSA, the Statement of Attainment in Responsible Service of Alcohol is the mandatory training required to sell, serve or supply alcohol in NSW.

This is regulated by Liquor & Gaming NSW, who have approved TAFE NSW to deliver this training.

Important: you can take this course to become job-ready but you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol until you are 18 years old.

Competency cards

To get your NSW RSA competency card:

  • Present your interim certificate (issued after successful completion of your RSA course) to a Service NSW centre and complete a 100 point identification check
  • Service NSW will post your card to you. You should allow up to one month for delivery
  • Digital competency cards are available via the Service NSW app. Download the app from iTunes or Google Play and follow the prompts

Important: you can take this course to become job ready but you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol until you are 18 years old.

Recognition of NSW RSA competency in other jurisdictions

Responsible service of alcohol legislative and knowledge requirements differ across borders. Check with the relevant state authority to see if your NSW RSA competency is recognised.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

For successful completion of this course you will need to provide evidence that you are 17 years or older. If you currently hold an RSA Competency Card that has (within 28 days of the date of the course) or is about to expire you should contact Liquor and Gaming NSW to undertake a refresher course, as you will not be eligible to enrol in this course.

This course is delivered via Video Conference from your nearest TAFE Campus from 8:45 am to approximately 4:00 pm. You must be in attendance for a minimum of 6 hours to successfully complete the course. For specific course attendance details please contact your local TAFE NSW Campus - Administration Office. Please note you will not be able to join the course after 9:20 am as there is a compulsory lock out time required by Liquor and Gaming NSW from this time.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, blended course. You will need to attend approximately 9 hours of class delivered via Video Conference, over 1 day, for I week.

This course is offered by Connected Classroom.  This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies.

Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who are from regional and remote communities to study RSA when convenient. For this campus-based course you will undertake your learning and assessment in a classroom at your local TAFE NSW West Region Campus and Video Conference into Cowra TAFE Campus where your teacher will be situated.

This course is delivered from your nearest TAFE campus on Thursday from 8:45am to 4:00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

"ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course. Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.

A fee of $165 for RSA qualification applies to this course and includes tuition, Competency Card and all resources required for completion of the qualification. Refer to reverse of the RSA Interim Certificate for examples of identification needed for 100 point ID check required when you take your Certificate to Service NSW to obtain your Liquor and Gaming NSW Competency Card.
