This course is designed for people wishing to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired water heaters which are incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function.
You will learn to isolate low voltage electrical supplies; disconnect and reconnect water heaters.
Topics for working safely on water heaters include:
- Identifying supply arrangements
- Following isolation procedure
- Selecting and using testing and measuring devices
- Terminating and connecting cables and conductors to Australian Standards
- Safety testing and reporting on water heaters.
The following topics are EXCLUDED from this course:
- Disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc)
- Installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).
This skill set is designed for students wishing to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired water heaters which are incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function.
Students will be developing skills in isolation of low voltage electrical supplies, disconnection and reconnection of water heaters. More specifically, should be able to: work safely on water heaters, identifying supply arrangements; follow isolation procedure; select and use testing and measuring devices; terminate and connect cables and conductors to Australian Standards; safety test and report on water heaters.
This EXCLUDES disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc); or installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).
This is a directed student cohort who prefer online learning with face to face attendance for the practical application.
Please wear enclosed footwear, safety glasses and bring classroom stationery.

Classes are currently scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday 5.30pm to 9.00pm. Attendance is only compulsory for practical demonstrations and assessments. All other learning can be completed on or off-campus.
A range of criteria apply for course fees and to access government subsidised training.
Remember, TAFE NSW provides a range of easy and flexible payment options for students or a nominated third party. (If a nominated third party is covering the cost of your fees, a letter of authority or purchase order will be required).

When your enrolment is complete, and you have paid the applicable fees, you will be entitled to attend class, participate in training, sit for examinations, receive educational awards, use amenities and services and receive an active TAFEcard (which provides access to library resources).
In addition to your course fee, there may be some additional charges to cover the costs of undertaking this training. Costs associated with work experience and field trips such as food, transport and accommodation are at the students? own expense.
