Course Details

This course is designed for people wishing to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired water heaters which are incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function.

You will learn to isolate low voltage electrical supplies; disconnect and reconnect water heaters.

Topics for working safely on water heaters include:

  • Identifying supply arrangements
  • Following isolation procedure
  • Selecting and using testing and measuring devices
  • Terminating and connecting cables and conductors to Australian Standards
  • Safety testing and reporting on water heaters.

The following topics are EXCLUDED from this course:

  • Disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc)
  • Installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).

The units of competency in this skill set are for people holding a relevant CIII or equivalent in the areas of Plumbing and gas fitting and the work is incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function.

You are required to provide evidence prior to enrolment of a relevant Certificate 3 or equivalent in the areas of Plumbing and Gas Fitting.

This skill set is designed for students wishing to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired water heaters which are incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function.

Students will be developing skills in isolation of low voltage electrical supplies, disconnection and reconnection of water heaters. More specifically, should be able to: work safely on water heaters, identifying supply arrangements; follow isolation procedure; select and use testing and measuring devices; terminate and connect cables and conductors to Australian Standards; safety test and report on water heaters.

This EXCLUDES disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc); or installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).

This is a directed student cohort who prefer online learning with face to face attendance for the practical application.

Classes are currently scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday 5.30pm to 9.00pm. Attendance is only compulsory for practical demonstrations and assessments. All other learning can be completed on or off-campus.
