Komatsu staff are achieving great results because of a Hunter TAFE training program that has been designed to recognise employees moving into management roles at the company with formal qualifications.

All 17 employees enrolled in the new initiative between Komatsu and Hunter TAFE achieved a result of 'Achieved Competency' with eight of the graduates achieving results of 90% or above in all 10 units of the course.

The Komatsu FLM course was developed after Komatsu approached Hunter TAFE to deliver training to staff entering the field of management. The goal of the partnership was to "take emerging or potential managers and give them the skills and confidence to develop and lead teams for their organisation."

One of the employees who undertook the course praised the initiative: 

"I sincerely thank you for teaching me new skills, refining those I already had and unearthing those I had, but had forgotten."
