Having already enjoyed a distinguished hospitality career, Meredith Armstrong sought a new challenge, and made the decision to study a Diploma of Nursing with TAFE NSW. Skills she had acquired during her work in the hospitality sector – including communication, teamwork and time-management – helped her gain a scholarship.

The scholarship, she says, gave her next career adventure a massive boost.

"The scholarship allowed me to study for a complete career change. The course was a life highlight because I discovered how wonderful it was to study as an adult. I found the standard of education and facilities at TAFE NSW to be first class. The teaching and administration support was much appreciated, and knowing that our facilitators had extensive and contemporary nursing experience made the learning real and relevant."

The real, relevant and industry-focused education Meredith received at TAFE NSW ensured that she could move straight into her dream career. Completing the diploma in May 2017, Meredith attended interviews in June, and by August she had started a full-time position as an enrolled nurse in Gosford Hospital’s cardiology unit.

While highly valuing the scholarship that helped her along the way, Meredith's biggest wraps are reserved for her new job: "I cannot recommend a career in nursing highly enough. The greatest gift is to participate in the care of patients on a daily basis. I plan to have a long and happy career in nursing."

Applications for Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) scholarships open on January 9th 2018 and close on February 13th 2018.
