Fiona Shewring, Painting and Decorating
Fiona Shewring fell into her trade by accident 20 years ago. She was a single mum with five small children when she started working in painting and decorating to pay the bills. ''I've always worked with my hands – I was a potter previously – and I just really enjoy painting and decorating."
Since 2000, Fiona has been a teacher of Painting and Decorating at Illawarra Institute, Wollongong campus. Three years ago she set up the not-for-profit SALT (Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen) organisation to support tradeswomen, female apprentices and women who wish to enter the trades. The organisation co-ordinates workshops and meetings across Australia.
Fiona was recognised as one of Australia's most inspirational women in the 2012 Financial Review-Westpac 100 Women of Influence Awards for actively supporting female tradies. She was nominated for the Premier's Australian Woman of the Year Award in 2014.Show me courses like this
