Kim McDonald, Sport & Recreation

Kim McDonald Teacher Northern Sydney Institute

Kim McDonald teaches in Sport and Recreation at the Northern Sydney Institute's Northern Beaches Campus. Kim was recently recognised with a Pride in Workmanship Award from the Balgowlah Rotary Club for her work in developing partnerships with industry to ensure students receive practical experience in their studies.

"At the Northern Beaches, we've been working with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance on a Boccia Inter Clubs Championship. The students in Certificate IV Sport and Recreation manage the entire day from paperwork to umpiring and it gives the players a chance to play boccia with friends as well as the people they're graded to play with. It's been running for three years and doubled in size each year. Now we have teams travelling from as far away as Tamworth and Dubbo to be involved with it. Watching how barriers and preconceptions are broken down throughout the day has been one of the best experiences I've had as a teacher."
