TAFE NSW is excited to be written in to the Western Sydney City Deal, responsible for providing a Skills Exchange to train the workforce needed to deliver the new Western Sydney Airport.
So what is a Skills Exchange?
A Skills Exchange is a partnership between TAFE NSW and industry to provide skills and other training to deliver major infrastructure projects, driving growth in the local economy. The Skills Exchange model, used so successfully in the construction of Barangaroo South, is changing the way a workforce receives training.
The TAFE NSW Skills Exchange at Western Sydney Airport will engage the local population in the construction of the infrastructure project, using an innovative and flexible training model that offers:
- onsite hubs
- apprentice mentoring programs
- close contact with employers
- a flexible approach to training and assessment
The TAFE NSW Skills Exchange model works. For instance, the pass rate for apprentices who studied through the Barangaroo Skills Exchange (BSX) was 84%, compared to an industry average of 43.2% for construction trades.
And, importantly, as a result of the quality training provided to their workforce, our partners experienced a 15% boost to business performance.
Whether in a classroom, on-site, online or any combination of these, TAFE NSW will leverage its resources to ensure the full jobs benefits of the Western Sydney Airport are realised for the economy of Western Sydney and NSW.
