‘This result is a testament to the determination and quality of work our students are producing. The recognition is thoroughly deserved.’

Nine TAFE NSW Lidcombe students shone brightly at the annual Interior Fitout Association (IFA) NSW Division Apprentice and Design Awards. The group won individual excellence awards in shopfitting.
Now in its 25th year, the esteemed event brought together national and independent businesses, industry leaders and emerging talent last month at Concord Golf Club. Apprentices and designers were celebrated for achievements at every stage of their careers.
Our long-standing relationship with the Interior Fitout Association gives TAFE NSW students the chance to showcase their skills in front of industry leaders and employers who can help launch their careers.

Certificate III in Shopfitting – Year 3 first place winner, Kayelee Coughlin, was working a desk job for six years before she found her calling for joinery.
“After high school I worked for an investment research company but after several years, I wanted to find a hands-on career that kept me on my feet,” said Miss Coughlin.
“Being recognised at the Interior Fitout Association NSW Division Apprentice and Design Awards feels rewarding and is proof that changing careers was the right decision.
“I thoroughly enjoyed hearing inspiring stories about my peers and networking with industry professionals I can learn from,” said Miss Coughlin.
Colin Lindberg, TAFE NSW Shopfitting and Joinery Head Teacher, said industry events provide opportunities for students to showcase their skills and network with leading professionals, setting them up for future success.
“This result is a testament to the determination and quality of work our students are producing. The recognition is thoroughly deserved,” said Mr Lindberg.
“Recognition by industry demonstrates that TAFE NSW students are building job-ready skills the interior fitout sector needs, enabling graduates to confidently transition from the classroom to the workforce,” said Mr Lindberg.
Kayelee is one of nine TAFE NSW Lidcombe students who collected awards across Year 1, 2 and 3 for excellence in shopfitting. Additionally, Interior design graduate Ghasaq Al-Mandalawi was recognised in the Diploma of Interior Design category for the campus.
Chris Hookham, IFA NSW President and Director of Dixon and Swanson Shopfitters, said the event highlights the strength of emerging talent and the importance of investing in the industry's future workforce.
“The standard of work on display at this year's Interior Fitout Association NSW Division Apprentice and Design Awards was outstanding and reflects the dedication of the winners, their teachers and their employers," Mr Hookham said.
"As our industry continues to evolve, we need skilled, innovative and job-ready professionals who can help drive the sector forward.
“Bringing together emerging talent and industry employers encourages connections and creates pathways to employment. This is strengthening the future of the interior fitout industry for years to come."
