    Assessments

    Assessments let you show what you've learned and check what you may need to work on.

    • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities.

    • Project tasks: case studies, creative projects, research activities, presentations.

    • Workplace portfolio: reflective journals, implementing activities and practical skills demonstrations.

    • Training logbook: completion of a minimum of 100 hours of work placement.

    Work placement

    Work placement gives you real experience and develops your skills.

    • During your course, you must do 100 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer. This is the minimum requirement. Your hours may increase if you need more time to demonstrate competency.

    • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

    • Online Campus students – you’re responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to help you.

    • Work placement generally only begins once you have had significant contact with your teacher and they are satisfied that you are ready to benefit from on-the-job industry learning and assessment.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in School Based Education Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.

    Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

    Course delivery

    Combination study

    Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

    Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
