This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Thursday with day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
Assessments let you show what you've learned and check what you may need to work on.
Knowledge assessments: online quizzes, multiple-choice questions, matching and true or false activities, research projects, presentations and creative projects.
Practical tasks before starting work placement: interviews, role-plays, creative projects, presentations and practical demonstrations.
Workplace portfolio assessment: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, practical demonstrations, critical reflection activities, programming, planning and implementing experiences.
Submission of a training logbook.
Work placement gives you real experience and develops your skills.
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
You must do 280 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer. This is the minimum requirement. Your hours may increase if you need more time to demonstrate competency.
Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 12 core and 3 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
