Assessments let you show what you've learned and check what you may need to work on.
Skills assessment: role play scenarios, presentation, practical, observations including assessments in the workplace.
Knowledge assessment: multiple choice, true or false, short answer questions.
Case study: case study scenario, reflection.
Portfolio: samples of work in a workplace environment.
Project: report, research-based project, journal, activities.
Work placement gives you real experience and develops your skills.
You will undertake a mandatory minimum of 80 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.
Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 11 core and 4 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Learn virtually by attending a TAFE NSW campus or Connected Learning Centre. Like learning on campus, you will receive a timetable of when to attend virtually. You'll use video or web conferencing technology to connect to your virtual classroom with your teacher and other students.
Depending on your course, you may also complete some of your training online, or through our network of Mobile Training Units, which give you access to practical training and simulated environments.
