  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • 35 hours of mandatory work placement at Kempsey in a 1 week block, and this cannot be modified

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • Students completing the First Aid unit can purchase a First Aid textbook from Student Central at an additional cost of $25.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • to have basic computer skills and have internet access to complete online components of study.
    • Students must be able to undertake work placement in an allocated 35 hour block week of placement, at a Pathology North Collection centre at Kempsey. This cannot be modified to suit the student due to Pathology Norths capacity. Work placement will be completed as a block over 1 or 2 weeks at Pathology North, with starts as early as 8:00am. Travel is at student's expense. Students will need to have all required immunisations, Working With Children Check (WWCC) and Criminal Records Check to be eligible for placement with NSW Health. This is also at student's expense.
    • Students are required to complete HLTAID003 Provide First Aid, and must be physically able to complete CPR to an adult manikin on the floor.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Pathology Collection qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 14 Units of competency, including 9 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection HLTPAT001

  • Perform venous blood collections HLTPAT002

  • Collect pathology specimens other than blood HLTPAT004

  • Deliver a service to customers BSBCUS201

Course Delivery Combination Study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

We have an innovatively designed trade centre including an indoor carpentry and joinery centre, where students gain practical skills in carpentry, bricklaying, concreting, plumbing and tiling. The campus also offers a range of creative industry courses, and is one of two campuses to offer a fashion design course on the North Coast.
