Sea turtle conservation has become an important issue in Australia as climate change is warming the Pacific Ocean. Turtles travel further south using the warmer East Australian Current and there is increased nesting activity across all of the NSW coast. Climate change is also causing increased run off, beach erosion, and is skewing the sex ratio during incubation. Six of the seven species of sea turtle (including the Leatherbacks) are considered threatened with extinction. This short course focusses on local rescue and rehabilitation efforts at the Australian Sea Bird and Turtle Rescue Centre on the Central Coast of NSW and Heron Island. This course will give you the opportunity to gain rare skills in conservation management and will enhance your understanding of current conservation strategies to manage endangered species.
