  This course is designed explicitly for the animal care industry to help you gain specialised skills that will complement your career. Learn to implant microchips in cats and dogs to apply as an Authorised Identifier with the Office of Local Government (OLG) NSW.

  Entry requirements

  • At least 18 years of age by course start as evidenced by a valid form of ID

  • A letter of support from a registered veterinary practitioner who is able to supervise you implanting microchips. This letter should document the following information:

  • That the veterinarian is an authorised implanter,

  • The veterinarian will supervise the microchip implantation of a total of 10 animals, which consists of 3 dogs (one of which must be conscious) and 3 cats (one of which must be conscious), with the remaining 4 either being a dog or cat and either conscious or unconscious, and

  • You have access to an animal care facility, veterinary practice or shelter

  • Completion of the Certificate II in Animal Care as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

  • Completion of a Certificate III or higher qualification in a related field, like the Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care or Certificate III in Animal Care Services, as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

  • Take part in an interview and complete a TAFE NSW Entry Pathways Toolkit, which we will use to evaluate your current skills and knowledge in an animal science discipline to determine if they are equivalent to the above qualifications

  • Access to a veterinary clinic to fulfil your mandatory work placement requirements as evidenced by a letter with an official letterhead from your employer
