Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Understand sentences and frequently used expressions
Sign about personal and family information encountered in work, school and leisure situations
Communicate simple and direct exchanges of information on familiar topics, or topics of personal interest
Describe experiences and events, hopes, dreams and ambitions
Briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans
Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.
Communicate independently with the Deaf community and develop your signing skills in Auslan
Use Auslan to communicate in casual and formal conversations such as introductions and asking for directions
Engage in spontaneous Auslan conversations
Understand the political and social elements of the Australian Deaf community

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Auslan qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 6 Units of competency, including 6 core and 0 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
