    Apply now for a Newcastle Lord Mayor’s Arts Scholarship

    Financial support for creative studies

    Established in 2004, the Newcastle Lord Mayor’s Arts Scholarship nurtures young talent studying creative arts at TAFE NSW. It also recognises the City of Newcastle’s commitment to cultural development.

    This scholarship provides financial support to students experiencing financial hardship while studying art, music, drama, dance or writing-related courses. One scholarship valued at $1,000 will be awarded, with up to five deserving runners-up potentially receiving $200 each

    By offering this opportunity, the scholarship cultivates creativity and innovation within the local arts community and helps aspiring artists develop their talents.

    Applications for the Newcastle Lord Mayor’s Arts Scholarship close at 5 pm (AEDT) Friday, 20 March 2026.

    Who can apply?

    To be eligible for the Newcastle Lord Mayor’s Arts Scholarship, you must:

    • be aged 30 or under
    • be enrolled in a TAFE NSW course related to art, music, drama, dance or writing
    • live or study within the Newcastle Local Government Area (LGA)
    • receive Centrelink benefits or hold a valid Health Care Card or Low Income Health Care Card
    • demonstrate commitment to your studies and career goals (e.g. by listing achievements or professional practice)
    • demonstrate positive academic values to represent TAFE NSW and the Hunter TAFE Foundation (e.g. through grades, attendance or character traits)
    • not have received a scholarship from the Hunter TAFE Foundation in the 12 months prior to the closing date.
