TAFE NSW Bankstown Children’s Centre

Our Bankstown Children’s Centre is a warm and nurturing place where children can develop a strong sense of belonging. We support children to build confidence through play. They can explore, make choices and develop new skills in everyday activities.

We also help children learn to care for the environment through simple activities like gardening, recycling and playing in nature. Guided and social play help children build independence and problem-solving skills, and learn to work with others.

We care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. There are two main rooms: one for babies and toddlers (6 weeks to 3 years) and one for preschool children (3 to 5 years). Room groups may change based on each child’s needs and development.

The TAFE NSW Bankstown campus on Chapel Road will close permanently from 24 December 2025.

The TAFE NSW Bankstown Children’s Centre will stay open onsite as usual until June 2026. This will ensure continuity for families and staff while we plan a long-term location for the centre.

Our centre has gardens where children can grow herbs and vegetables. They learn how to plant, care for and pick what they grow. We also have easy-care plants like succulents, so children can enjoy nature in a simple way.

As children explore their interests and make choices, they build thinking skills and learn to take responsibility. This helps prepare them for school.

At our centre, we value diversity, inclusion and equality. We create a welcoming place where every child can belong.

Our educators

Our educators have up to 30 years of experience in early childhood education and care. They offer a diverse range of skills to support each child’s learning.

We have staff who speak Arabic, Vietnamese and Bengali, which helps us connect with families from different cultures. When children are getting ready for school, we support them through the change. If needed, an educator can go with the child to help them feel safe and confident as they start school.

Each day at our centre balances structured learning with child-led play. This helps children explore, learn and grow at their own pace, and with their friends.

Morning activity

In the morning, children take part in indoor and outdoor play. They choose activities that:

• build physical skills, movement and social play
• support creativity, sensory play and imagination

Learning and play

Our program includes guided learning in language, literacy, maths and science, along with child-led play. It helps children build focus, social skills and independence. They also learn to think, make choices and solve problems. This helps to build confidence and supports lifelong learning.

Mealtimes and rest

Families provide their child’s lunch and snacks. Children eat together to build social and communication skills. Rest time is flexible and based on each child’s needs and family preferences.

We welcome families to visit our centre, look around and see our spaces in person.

If you enrol your child, we offer personalised orientation sessions to get to know our team and help your child settle in.

To begin the enrolment process, you can contact the centre on 02 7921 6829, or submit an Application for Care Form [PDF, 1.7 MB] to join our waiting list. We will notify you as soon as a place becomes available.

To submit your application, you will need to provide:

• Birth certificate
• Medicare card
• Health care/Pension card (if you have one)
• Immunisation record (must be through Medicare, blue books are not accepted).

Please note: Children must meet government immunisation requirements or have an approved exemption to be eligible for Child Care Subsidy (CCS).

There are five steps to complete enrolment:

1. Apply for Child Care Subsidy (if eligible) - To be confirmed between the Early Childhood Director (ECD) and parents/guardians.
2. Agree on care arrangements - The Early Childhood Director (ECD) and parent/guardian confirm the child’s care details.
3. Submit enrolment - The ECD submits an enrolment notice to Centrelink via HubHello.
4. Confirm enrolment - The parents/guardians verify the enrolment with Centrelink.
5. Secure enrolment - If you accept an offer, we’ll send a formal letter detailing the next steps. This includes submitting a birth certificate, proof of immunisation and a security deposit to secure your childcare placement.

Once the enrolment is completed and approved your entitlements can be calculated, and payments made. If there are no vacancies, we can add you to the waiting list.

Under Family Assistance Law, all children attending an early learning centre must have an enrolment notice, regardless of CCS eligibility. For eligible families, Centrelink/Services Australia can only process CCS claims once the correct enrolment is in place.
