TAFE NSW’s Multicultural Plan

    alt=""

We’re committed to creating a workplace and educational space where dignity, trust, respect and the promotion of diversity and inclusion is valued.

The lived experience and diverse backgrounds of our students, employees and communities are integral to our identity and inclusive culture.

    Current Multicultural Plan (MP)

TAFE NSW’s Multicultural Plan 2020–2022 shows our commitment to multicultural communities.

    It helps us to:

    • track progress on multicultural initiatives

    • measure social, cultural and economic impact

    • stay focused on inclusion, accessibility and participation.

This work is especially important for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

The plan is guided by the Multicultural Policies and Services Program (MPSP) framework.

As part of our commitment, we have:

    • developed a clear governance and accountability framework

    • implemented annual reporting processes to Multicultural NSW.

    Future MP

The next Multicultural Plan will launch in late 2025. It outlines clear actions and measurable results. An implementation guide will support the Plan. This guide will assign responsibility for monitoring and evaluation.

The Plan supports the MPSP framework. It uses a theory of change approach with four key outcome areas:

    1. Active leadership

Leaders at all levels will promote and support a culturally inclusive workplace and learning environment.

    2. Effective engagement and communication

We will reflect cultural authenticity in our marketing and communication.

    3. Tailored planning

Our policies and processes will consider the needs of multicultural students and staff.

    4. Accessible services

We will design inclusive programs and services to reduce barriers to education, training and support.

    Our commitment

To develop the next plan, we used the MPSP framework and aligned it with the TAFE NSW Strategic Plan 2024–2027. We also considered the goals of the TAFE NSW Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Plan.

We prioritise the voices of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in decisions that affect them. We spoke with students, staff and community members to reflect the diverse ideas and experiences in our communities.

We follow the Multicultural NSW Act 2000. We involve people with lived experience to help create an inclusive and accessible environment.

    Impacts and outcomes

The goal of the next Multicultural Plan is to:

    • remove barriers to participation

    • improve access to services and programs

    • support multicultural equity in public education in NSW.

By doing this, TAFE NSW aims to:

    • build stronger communities

    • promote equality

    • foster a sense of belonging for students, staff and the wider community.

    Join our community

The Multicultural Staff Network is a safe space for staff from multicultural backgrounds to connect, share ideas and support each other.

It helps build skills, grow careers and develop leadership. This improves visibility, representation and participation in decision-making across TAFE NSW.
