    Obtain the required skills and training to safely and properly remove and dispose non-friable or bonded asbestos. Recognise and manage the associated risks and work as an asbestos removal specialist for a licensed Class B asbestos removal company.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Prepare, contain and remove non-friable asbestos containing material (ACM)

    • Identify and barricade the location of non-friable asbestos materials

    • Safely set up asbestos work areas

    • Carry out proper non-friable asbestos removal and decontamination processes

    • Clean up work areas according to regulatory requirements

    • Safely dispose of ACM in an approved waste facility

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    • Successful completion of the unit, CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry as evidenced by your transcript or certificate.

    Completion requirements

    During your study you'll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • 100 points for identification which includes your date of birth, signature, address and photo. This is needed for the SafeWork NSW assessment. For more information, please visit SafeWork NSW.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • A safety-conscious mindset

    • Keen attention to detail

    • An interest to work as a Class B non-friable (bonded) asbestos removal specialist

    • Some experience working in the construction industry

    • Language, literacy and numeracy skills at a Year 10 level

    Licensing

    Asbestos removal is a dangerous process. You must have a licence to carry out this work properly and safely. There are different asbestos removal licences, which mean you can remove different types of asbestos. A Class B asbestos removal licence allows you to remove more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for this licence. You can visit SafeWork NSW for more information on eligibility and application requirements.
