    About this course

    Put yourself on the front lines of the housing crisis. Build relationships with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Understand your responsibilities as a housing officer and explore the many services that can assist your clients.

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    Traineeship

    • You must be employed as a trainee in the industry.

    • Your Apprenticeship Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) must submit your Training Proposal Plan (TPP).

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • the ability to support people from diverse backgrounds

    • the ability to deal with challenging situations

    • strong verbal and written communication skills

    • access to a computer with good internet connection

    • basic computer skills

    • willingness to get a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.

    Our graduates go onto roles like: housing officer, client contact officer, housing support worker, tenant officer, tenant advocate, homelessness liaison officer, customer support officer, homelessness outreach worker, homelessness support worker, crisis accommodation worker and case manager.

    Licensing

    To work in the industry, you will require a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check (NPC). You may also require vaccinations depending on your workplace.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Housing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 8 core and 7 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
