    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Prepare, conduct and document site surveys through a range of stakeholder consultations

    • Assess client needs and be able to prepare a detailed report for the designer

    • Plan PV system installation by verifying designs, manage WHS/OHS hazards and comply with mounting and safety standards

    • Install LV PV power arrays by isolating circuits, terminating wiring, performing quality checks and using documenting systems

    • Design off-grid PV/genset systems by applying WHS/OHS procedures, determine scope and comply with safety and regulatory requirements

    • Develop off-grid PV/genset designs by incorporating performance standards, energy management, document safety and compliance

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    • Unrestricted Electrical licence as evidenced by a copy of your Contractor Licence or Qualified Supervisor Certificate, and

    • Statement of Attainment in Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems - Design and Install or equivalent as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, and

    • Statement of Attainment in Grid-connected Battery Storage Systems Designer-Installer Skill Set or equivalent as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Experience working in an electrical trade

    • The ability to work at voltages greater than 50 volt (V) alternating current (a.c.) or 120 V direct current (d.c.)

    • Enclosed safety boots or equivalent, for roofing work

    • Safety glasses

    • Cotton clothing – long sleeve shirt and long trousers

    • Hat

    • PPE gloves

    Licensing

    You need to hold an Unrestricted Electricians Licence, or its equivalent issued in an Australian state or territory, in order to apply for jobs in the industry. Successful completion of the Statement of Attainment in Standalone Power systems – Design and Install, will mean you are eligible to apply for recognition of your skills to Solar Accreditation Australia. This will mean you can participate in the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Registering ensures you meet industry standards, which is essential for issuing Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). STCs provide financial benefits to the public by offering incentives through the Australian Government's renewable energy schemes reducing the cost of installing solar systems.
