    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • provide person-centred support

    • advocate for the interests and rights of your clients

    • coordinate services and interventions

    • deliver care and support services to clients who are palliative or living with dementia

    • lead teams of staff.

    • You must be employed as a trainee in the industry.

    During your study you'll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • an Australian National Police Check (if your work placement provider asks for it)

    • vaccination and health checks (if your work placement provider asks for them)

    • a Working with Children Check (WWCC) (if your work placement provider asks for it).

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • an interest in working with people

    • empathy and patience

    • good organisation and time management skills

    • a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility to carry out first aid and manual handling.

    • You can read everyday texts and find important information.

    • You can write short sentences or lists to share information.

    • You can do everyday maths like working out prices or reading a timetable.

    • You can speak clearly and explain your thoughts in a group.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 18 units of competency, including 15 core and 3 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
