    Develop your creative making skills when you build and construct set pieces and props for theatre, film, stage or TV. Apply design fundamentals to set and prop design and work on audio, lighting and vision production design for live events.

    OutcomesWhat you'll gain

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Apply the fundamentals of design and the design process to influence set and prop design

    • Build and construct set pieces and prop elements, resourcing and set dressing for TV, film or live stage

    • Operate front of house and monitoring audio mixing consoles

    • Operate lighting consoles and a variety of lights

    • Bump in and and bump out, and set up and pack down stage equipment and backline

    • Work on design and pre-production processes for live events, including audio, lighting and vision

    Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.

    • Experience working on live events and entertainment design with full audio, lighting and vision production

    • Exposure to pre-production, including lighting design and stage plans

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • An interest in the visual outcomes of film, TV and stage performances and a desire to get your designs onto your chosen platform

    • Attended a range of live performances (if possible)

    • Familiarity with live sound, staging, lighting, vision systems and/or event management

    • The ability to lift portable sound and lighting equipment

    • The ability to work in a team, as collaboration is essential

    • An interest in work that is a combination of creative and technical tasks

    • A patient attitude and the ability to alternate between intense periods of work and lengthy periods of waiting

    • The ability to occasionally attend rehearsals, functions, and live performances outside of class hours if needed, potentially on evenings and/or weekends

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

    • TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test.

    • This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services (Scenery and Props) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 4 core and 11 speciality units.
