To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
A passion for sharing cultural, historic, artistic or natural information and history
Interests in engaging with, managing and educating a diverse range of people
Confidence with public speaking and leading group engagement activities
Adequate fitness and mobility to deliver first aid, like performing 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin on the floor, and to respond to emergency situations
A love of working outdoors in changing environments
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level
TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test. This helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

If you’re aged between 15 and 17 years old, you can enrol at TAFE NSW, however you may need to supply some additional information, for example:
Your Record of School Achievement (RoSA) or that you've completed Year 10 or an equivalent course.
If you’re homeschooled, your Certificate of homeschooling registration.
Parent or guardian consent.
You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
Work placement opportunities, if any, will be confirmed with your teacher.
Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

NSW Liquor and Gaming regulations require students to be at least 16 years old if they undertake units that involve the service of alcohol. However, you need to be at least 18 years old to work in the industry. Students who complete the RSA will enable you to apply for a competency card from NSW Liquor and Gaming allowing you to serve or supply alcohol and/or work with gaming machines.
Completion of this course requires you to successfully complete 13 units of competency, including 9 core and 4 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Learn through a combination of on-campus classroom, virtual classroom, online, and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled face-to-face or virtual classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.
Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
