    Interstate student pathways

    alt=””

If you live outside NSW, you can study at TAFE NSW. Your home state may help pay for your training. Each state has different rules and not all courses get funding. Apprentices, trainees and some pathway students might qualify, but you must meet your home state’s requirements.

    Study with us

Your home government may help pay for your training with us if you live in:

    • Australian Capital Territory
    • Queensland
    • South Australia
    • Tasmania
    • Victoria.

This includes if you’re an apprentice or trainee. Queensland and South Australia also offer subsidies for general pathway students.

    General eligibility requirements

Eligibility and available courses are different in each state. Not all courses get government funding.

To access subsidised training, you must:

    • be 15 years or older
    • live and work in your home state
    • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible visa holder
    • not enrol in more than one subsidised course at a time.

Note: You must meet your home state’s specific requirements to access funding. Check your state’s guidelines before you apply.

    Interstate apprenticeships and traineeships

Apprentices and trainees may be eligible for subsidised training through their home state. Each state and territory sets its own rules for eligibility and funding.

Talk to your apprenticeship network provider for more information. You can also check your state or territory government website to see how to apply and what support you can get.

    General pathways for interstate students

Subsidies may be available for students in general pathway courses. At present, Queensland and South Australia offer these options.

Visit your state or territory government website to check if your course is eligible. You can also browse course areas for more course details.

See the state-by-state funding arrangements for a quick overview. Find out what subsidies your state offers.

    Study without a subsidy

You can still study with TAFE NSW even if you do not qualify for government-subsidised training. You’ll enrol as a fee-for-service student and pay the full course fee.

You won’t get concessions, exemptions, fee-free scholarships, travel subsidies and other benefits. You’ll still get the same high-quality training and support as every other TAFE NSW student.
