    About this course

    Grow your career in live production by learning to use lighting, audio and show control equipment. You’ll gain the skills to work in a range of roles, including sound technician, lighting technician and production coordinator.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • assist with rehearsals and live productions

    • operate a range of lighting and sound equipment

    • use industry software to schedule and run live productions

    • create a self-care plan to support your mental health while working in live production

    • build and maintain good working relationships with others in production, including performers, cast and crew, directors and stage managers

    • collaborate with others in the creative process.

    • A nationally accredited qualification at certificate IV level.

    • Skills to set up and run industry-standard lighting and sound at live events.

    • Experience working on real productions with industry professionals.

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

    • This course can be completed as part of a traineeship. Enquire today to check the eligibility requirements.

    • You must meet workplace needs and show basic knowledge of current practices in at least one area of technical production. You can show this with evidence such as a letter from your employer, your resume, a transcript, production records or references.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • enclosed shoes and ear protection

    • an interest in live production and previous study or work experience in the industry

    • basic computer skills and access to a computer with internet and Microsoft Office 365

    • the ability to manage self-paced study

    • a moderate level of fitness, as course work includes lifting, carrying and connecting live production equipment

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level.

    Units taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 16 units of competency, including 4 core and 12 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
