At TAFE NSW, we offer practical English language courses to help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Our programs can prepare you to study in Australia and meet the English language requirements of your chosen vocational or higher education course. They can also help you communicate with English speakers around the world.

Improve your English language skills to confidently study and travel in Australia and communicate with English speakers around the world.
The General English Program develops your grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You can start at any level from Beginner to Advanced. The General English Program also offers flexible exit points so you can finish studying this course when you have the skills you need.
When you successfully complete this course at an Advanced level, you will be able meet the IELTS requirement for a TAFE NSW course entry requirement with a IELTS 6.0 (with no individual band less than 5.5).

The tuition fee is payable in advance. If your application for this program is successful, you will receive a letter of offer with payment details.
Start date and duration
Course duration: 2 – 50 weeks (20 hours per week)
Start date: New students can start any week on Monday. Some centres start their sessions every five weeks. Visit the English Language Course Calendar for up-to-date session times.

TAFE NSW will help you meet the English entry requirements of your chosen vocational or higher education course.
Studying English with TAFE NSW allows entry into any of our courses offered to international students. (Please note you must also meet the other course entry requirements.) This includes more than 100 vocational qualifications available to international students (certificates to advanced diplomas*) and a number of bachelor' degrees.
*except for Diploma of Nursing, which requires an IELTS or OET test

Overview
English for Academic Purposes is designed to improve your English language skills, for success in your academic studies. This course is a great choice if you want to prepare to study a vocational or higher education course in Australia.
The course has flexible exit points so you can leave when you have achieved the skill level required for your next course of study.
The entry requirement for this course is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Students who have successfully attained Upper Intermediate level (CEFR B2) at a TAFE NSW English Language Centre are admitted into the English for Academic Purposes course.
When you successfully complete English for Academic Purposes, you will be able meet the IELTS requirement for a TAFE NSW course entry requirement with a IELTS 6.5 (with no individual band less than 6.0).
